Mara Zamora is the general manager at Rewilding Spain. Coinciding with the celebration of World Rewilding Day, we publish this article that highlights the link between the well-being of nature and that of human beings, as well as the role of rewilding as a vision that addresses fundamental challenges for people, based on their commitment to a wilder and more ecologically functional nature.

Ricardo Almazán is the general manager of La Maleza Wildlife Park, located in Sierra de Albarracín region. With the support of Rewilding Europe, his business committed in 2021 to making this area the first place in Spain to host a herd of tauros, the bovids that gather the features of the aurochs, the extinct wild cow. In this post Ricardo describes his experience with these awesome animals and how the effects of their presence in the landscape are already becoming visible.

José María Rey Benayas is Professor of Ecology at the University of Alcalá and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fundación Española de Renaturalización – Rewilding Spain. With this article on the prospects for rewilding in Spain we launch our new blog section, where we will deal in more depth with different aspects related to our work and the Iberian Highlands rewilding initiative.
